From foundations to mascaras and lipsticks, there are some pretty phenomenal beauty items available at your local drugstore. True beauty mavens know that a product doesn’t have to be expensive to be high quality. One of my favorite eyeliners of all time costs less than three dollars (more on that below…)! Keep reading for ten drugstore beauty products that everyone from makeup artists to YouTube gurus to beauty enthusiasts can’t get enough of…and you need in your collection.
Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation: Maybelline is a brand you’re going to see a lot of in this post, but their products are just too spectacular to not mention. From mascaras to lipsticks, Maybelline is always at the top of the drugstore beauty game, but their true standouts are their face products. This foundation does exactly what it’s name says: gives you a flatwless, matte finish, while minimizing the appearance of pores. Especially during the summer, when many people start experiencing oilier skin, a matte foundation is key. A little goes a long way with this foundation – a drop or two is all you need for a flawless complexion that will last all day. If you prefer a dewier finish, go for the Dewy + Smooth version.
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: This concealer is perfection. It’s extremely lightweight, yet covers up any blemishes or dark spots with ease. From the packaging to the formula, this is an undoubtable drugstore dupe for the classic NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, but honestly I prefer the Maybelline version. It feels less heavy on your skin. My ideal concealer combo is using the Fit Me on spots and blemishes, but using Maybelline’s Age Rewind Eraser under my eyes to conceal my dark circles. The Age Rewind is far and away the best dark circle erasing product out there, from drugstore to luxury. You need to try it if you haven’t already.
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer: This product caught my eye after Kathleen Lights mentioned it in a few of her YouTube videos. It’s a fantastic, daytime bronzer. It gives off an effortless sun-kissed glow, and blends like an absolute dream (butter is in the name, after all). For a more dramatic effect, you can build it up, but for an easy, day-to-day look, just apply a few sweeps to the hollows of your cheekbones and your temples. You’ll be good to go! Side note: it has a delicious coconut-y smell that will make you feel like you’re in a tropical paradise.
Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso: If you ever look at your makeup and think, “what blush would go well with this look?”, a safe bet is Luminoso. It is one of those universally flattering, stunning-on-everyone shades that works like magic. There’s something special about this subtle, radiant peachy pink blush. It complements smoky eyes, bold lips, natural makeup…any look you can think of. There’s nothing quite like it – if you don’t own Luminoso yet, I highly recommend you go pick one up ASAP.
Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder: I debated whether or not to include this product on the list since it’s a currently out-of-stock, limited edition item, but it just had to be mentioned. To put it mildly, highlighters at the drugstore are…not so good. They tend to be chalky or too glittery or lack pigmentation. Surprisingly, the brand that finally go it right is the ultra-affordable Wet n Wild. This spring, the brand released MegaGlo, a velvety smooth, insanely luminous highlighter that some say is as good as BECCA. With all that major buzz, these sold out quickly, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the brand will make it a permanent fixture soon. We’ll keep you posted if it comes back in stock.
L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow: These shadows are showstoppers. With a unique creamy-powder formulation (they remind me a bit of ColourPop shadows), these eyeshadows are insanely pigmented, go on very easily and last on your lid all day without creasing. For the ultimate pop of color, press the shadow onto your lid using your finger. My personal favorite shade is Amber Rush, a sparkly, unique pink that truly lights up my eyes. I love to press it onto the center of my lid – it’s the ideal finishing touch to any eye look.
L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara: Mascara is very subjective – every formula works and looks different on every person. That being said, I’ve never met a person who has tried Carbon Black and didn’t absolutely rave about it. I don’t know if it’s the formula or the wand or the combination of the two, but there’s something incredible about this product. It transforms lashes – you’ll never need falsies again. It can add volume and drama to even the stubbiest of lashes. A few coats is all you need, and don’t worry about clumps or flaking – this stuff will remain on your lashes until you take it off.
Essence Eyeliner Pen Waterproof: Would you believe me if I told you the best liquid liner at the drugstore is under three bucks? Essence’s felt tip eyeliner pen glides on smoothly, has a rich, jet black color payoff and doesn’t budge. I usually have a difficult time working with liquid liners, but the pen applicator makes it so easy for me to draw a sharp and precise wing. I can’t believe the price is so low, yet the quality is so good – it’s one of those drugstore treasures that can change your makeup routine forever.
NYX Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner: The struggle to find a pencil for the waterline that won’t budge is real. NYX’s Tres Jolie is a game changer. Available in black and brown, this smooth pencil glides onto your waterline with ease. The pigmented formula gives you the same payoff and effect of a gel liner, but it’s much easier to use – no brush and pot necessary! You can use this product on your top lid, to create a wing, in the inner rim and waterline…the options are endless. If you have very watery or sensitive eyes, definitely give this a try.
Maybelline Creamy Matte Lip Color: The drugstore has a diverse and beautiful selection of lip products – from balms to glosses and, more recently, liquid lipsticks, you can find some pretty great formulas at your local CVS or Target. I must say, the product I find myself reaching for over and over again is Maybelline’s Creamy Matte Lipsticks. These buttery, comfortable lippies are just easy. They glide on, stay on for a few solid hours, are moisturizing…the list goes on and on. In the range, you can find nudes, brights, pastels and vampy shades, but my number one is Touch of Spice. The one-of-kind shade is a deep, rosy nude that’s the perfect everyday shade – possibly my top drugstore lipstick of all time.
