Every December, beauty fans place their best guesses on what Pantone’s Color of the Year will be. This color will be everywhere over the next year – clothing, interior design and, of course, beauty products. Last year it was the rich and earthy Marsala, and the year before that, the bright and vibrant Radiant Orchid. What no one could have predicted was that for 2016, Pantone would select not one, but two, Colors of the Year. The beautiful, complementary colors Rose Quartz and Serenity, to be exact. Rose Quartz is a pale pink and Serenity is a soft blue; the two shades look absolutely perfect as a duo. While we’ll be sharing plenty of Serenity beauty products over the coming weeks (think nail polish), for this blog post, we wanted to focus on must-have Rose Quartz lipsticks. Although, if you’re brave enough to rock a light blue lipstick, all the more power to you!
In case you were wondering why they decided to go with two colors this year, check out this quote from Pantone, above.
MAC Tinted Lipglass in Angel: When it comes to lip products, MAC basically makes every shade of every color in every finish, so it should come as no surprise that they have a Rose Quartz gloss out there. The shade is Angel, which is already incredibly popular since it’s one of Kim Kardashian’s must-haves. The Lipglass line is pretty pigmented on its own, but for maximum impact layer it on top of a rose quartz-hued lipstick or liner. ($15)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Baby Pink: The name says it all: ABH’s Baby Pink is a light, yet bright pastel pink. The photo above shows the lipstick as coral-hued, but it’s a true baby pink. This line of liquid lipsticks can be drying, so if you’re prone to dry lips, definitely prep beforehand with a good lip balm. The color itself is absolutely beautiful, and will last on your lips all night. ($20)
Sephora + PANTONE Layer Lipstick in Rose Quartz: Every year, PANTONE collaborates with Sephora on some beauty products revolving around the theme of the year. For this year’s two colors, they’ve released two lipsticks – one is this pretty pastel pink, and the other is a bold and daring light blue. How incredibly beautiful is that packaging? If you’re interested in the other products from the Sephora + PANTONE collection, click here. ($18)
CoverGirl Continuous Color Lipstick in Rose Quartz: Here’s a drugstore option that literally bears the same name as the Color of the Year. CoverGirl’s Rose Quartz is a moisturizing and long-lasting lipstick that will flatter a wide range of skin tones. You don’t need to spend a lot to have a beautiful lipstick – at under five dollars, you need to give this a try! ($4.94)
NYX Butter Lipstick in Cotton Candy: NYX’s Butters Lipsticks might be their best lip products…and that’s really saying something, since all of their lip products are pretty fantastic. The shade Cotton Candy is a dreamy and flattering light pink. Butter Lipsticks go on sheer, so you can build this up until you get the desired look…and it truly goes on by butter. So moisturizing and creamy, it’s almost like a lip balm and lipstick hybrid. ($6)
YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Lingerie Pink: This is probably the chicest take on rose quartz. From the packaging to the stunning colors to the creamy consistency, YSL lipsticks are the epitome of luxury. Lingerie Pink is an absolutely gorgeous light pink. This color is just perfect – so elegant. My only note is that YSL lipsticks are not super long-lasting – definitely keep this in your bag when you go out for routine touchups. ($36)
Too Faced La Crème in Marshmallow Bunny: Too Faced’s La Crème line is so underrated. So deliciously creamy, you will not feel this on your lips all night…and it really lasts, which is rare when it comes to creamy lipsticks. Marshmallow Bunny is their version of Rose Quartz, and it is so stunning. Encased in a luxe gold casing, this would also make a sweet little stocking stuffer or holiday gift. ($22)
ColourPop Lippie Stix in Westie: ColourPop is always ahead of the curve. They released Westie, a shade we think is a perfect Rose Quartz color, months ago. It’s such a pretty pop of pink. An immensely wearable dusty baby pink. Plus, the Lippie Stix line is so comfortable to wear and truly lasts on your lips. At $5, it’s truly a steal. ($5)
NARS Lipstick in Roman Holiday: This slightly sheer, prim and delicate pastel pink is one of NARS’ best-selling shades. It’s slightly brighter than the other Rose Quartz shades on the list, but if you’re a vibrancy lover, this is your color. You can build it up or just apply one swipe for a perfect daytime lip color. NARS’ lipstick quality is top-notch – this is definitely a great way to jump on the Rose Quartz train. ($27)
L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Color in Tickled Pink: L’Oreal is another brand that I feel doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Their lipsticks are some of the best at the drugstore, and the price can’t be beat. Their take on Rose Quartz, Tickled Pink, can be found for under $6, and it’s stunning. Rich, creamy and moisturizing, there’s not much else you could want from a lipstick! ($5.99)
