COTZ: THE MODERN SUNSCREEN

image

Being that May is Melanoma Awareness Month, we will be sharing some of our favorite sunscreens and tips for keeping our skin healthy and looking good all month long. We want products that don’t make us look like a white-faced crazed sun hater or like a shiny, sticky, greasy beast. We want to feel clean and beautiful without fear of getting sunburned or wrinkled up like a Sunkist raisin.

The red banner of CoTZ sunscreen caught our attention at a recent BeautyPress Spotlight Day event. Well, I for one had never come across their products before and boy was I in for a treat. CoTZ stands for “Contains Only Titanium & Zinc Oxide.” This product was developed to provide maximum protection for individuals that need extra protection or may be photosensitive. This line of healthy mineral sunscreens offers a nice range of products: Pediatric, Sensitive, Face and Pure. These products have no synthetic ingredients, preservatives or chemicals. I had the pleasure of speaking with the founder of this sun care line, Dr. Harry Fallick. He began his career as a board certified plastic surgeon, didn’t love what he was doing, and began Cotz. Yay for us!

The first thing that came to mind when I heard zinc oxide were the summers my mom forced me to wear the white pasty zinc from the local pharmacy. Apparently my mom was one of the few who was ahead of her time. While our friends worked on their tans, she supplied our community pool with tubes of zinc and extra sun hats. The zinc would often end up in my eyes, and it wouldn’t wash off without carefully scrubbing my skin with a washcloth till it was almost raw. Let’s just say my memories of zinc oxide were less than favorable, and I was nowhere near getting voted cutest girl. But, this sunscreen is a far cry from what I used to use. CoTZ offers a soft, sheer matte finish and has virtually no smell at all. After applying it to my hand, I watched it disappear, leaving no residue at all. Being that it isn’t sticky, has no offensive smell, and doesn’t leave you with a white film on your face, I’m also thinking that my kids won’t object to wearing it. That means less time I have to spend chasing them on the beach with sunscreen in my hand and more time doing my favorite beachtime activities!

LIPSTICK RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN

image

Back at the start of 2014, we predicted that orange lips would be everywhere this spring. We weren’t exactly wrong in that forecast, but what we didn’t expect was that it would be a big season for bold lip colors of every variety! From purple to yellow to blue, vibrant lipsticks are making a big statement.

image

Not surprisingly, Rihanna was one of the first to get creative with her lipstick color choice. She was previously spotted with blue lips, but really caught everyone’s attention when she sported Dolce & Gabbana’s Smeraldo:

image

image

Supermodel Joan Smalls managed to pull off the nearly impossible and stand out amongst the daring fashion and beauty risks from all the A-listers at the 2014 Met Gala. This simple pop of bright purple was a genius touch and brought her otherwise conservative look to the next level.

image

NYX released this macaron-inspired collection and the Pampadour community is OBSESSED. Perfect for anyone who wants to really make a statement with their lipstick choice. We also love that the names make us think of our favorite little French treats.

Lime Crime is synonymous with bold and bright. Check out some of the lipstick swatches, above! We love the line because their vibrant colors really stay put for hours…plus the packaging is irresistible! If you haven’t yet, make sure to enter our Lime Crime spring giveaway on Pampadour!

THE SUNSCREEN WE’LL BE USING ALL SUMMER LONG

image

When it comes to sunscreen, I want to know that I am protected. I want a high SPF, I want protection against UVA & UVB rays. What I don’t want is stickiness, an overwhelming fragrance or white residue. Enter Team Pamp’s new obsession: MD Complete Anti-Aging Youthful Skin Sun Shield.

I applied this underneath my makeup for a day when I knew I would be walking outside for hours. It was so lightweight and almost instantly absorbed into my skin. It’s SPF 50, which is great for someone who likes coverage. Amazingly enough, the lotion was also super hydrating and moisturizing. The sunscreen, developed by Dr. Brian Zelickson, also contains anti-aging properties, so you’re sure to have glowing, youthful skin!!

Definitely recommend this! For more sunscreen, self-tanner and summer beauty recommendations, log onto PAMPADOUR!

We finally got to try the Surratt line, and it actually exceeded our already-high expectations! From the pigmentation to the colors, this brand is just breathtaking. It’s obvious that the quality is extremely high – expect to see us pamping about Surratt a lot in the future!

image

Another line we were excited to get a peek at at the show was black|Up Cosmetics. The beauty brand is specifically targeted to women of color – we were told that there is a lot of red in their products to neutralize their skin tone, and the products have mattifying qualities to combat oily skin. Their selection was beautiful – we definitely recommend it!

We already featured the Kevyn Aucoin exhibit earlier in the post, but take a look at the exquisite Kevyn Aucoin Beauty line! We absolutely adour the extensive selection of lipsticks and makeup brushes shown here.

PAMPADOUR TAKES THE IMATS!

image

On Sunday, Team Pampadour headed into NYC to attend the famous IMATS. Our resounding conclusion? Definitely worth the hype! Follow the jump for highlights and photos from our Sunday Funday 🙂

The line at Lime Crime was absolutely insane. It was out the door of the giant convention center! Once we got our hands on some of the products, though, it was clear to see what all the fuss was about. From the lipsticks to the shadow palettes, this line is one of a kind. Bright, vibrant colors, super pigmented and so long lasting it’s crazy, this is one of our new obsessions!

The NYX station was, obviously, a madhouse. The people working at that station handed out buckets, and LOTS of people managed to fill theirs up! It was kind of shocking how much makeup they were buying!! The selection was great – so many different shades of eyeliner, Matte Lip Creams, foundations, etc. At a solid discount, it was definitely a great day for bargain hunters.

I’m not a big falsies person, but I can appreciate a great deal when I see one! Ardell had a giant wall filled with false lashes (they said many styles were already sold out). The deal was 6 pairs for $20! Clearly, people stocked up.

image

The selection of brushes at BDellium Tools was incredible. Who knew there were so many different types of makeup brushes?! Everything was lined up so beautifully, it was pretty irresistible. Would probably say the same for Sigma, but the line to approach their section was so long we couldn’t even see! Tons of people were lined up, waiting to meet YouTube star Carli Bybel.

image

We couldn’t resist picking up some OCC Lip Tars!! Fifty percent off, woo hoo!

image

There were demonstrations, tutorials and makeovers all over the place! IMATS was truly beauty lover heaven.
