The origin of Beauty411 sounds vaguely familiar… a beauty junkie was constantly asked to recommend products by her friends so she decided to create a centralized place to discuss all things beauty. Nancy Houlmont created the popular Beauty411 blog in 2007, and has been writing about her favorite products and beauty news ever since. She spoke to The Daily Pamp about the hottest products, skincare and more.
When did your love for beauty start?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always been fascinated by makeup and beauty products! When we would go shopping, it was hard for me to get past the makeup counters.
You have a passion for skincare: any particular new product or technology that you are excited about?
I really do love skincare. I’m excited to see serums with new, cutting edge ingredients. I also love the in-home laser products (FDA-approved, of course).
What is the best advice you can give women on taking care of their skin?
Women should realize that their skin’s needs change as they get older, so updating or re-evaluating your regimen is a good practice. Wearing sunscreen daily (and enough of it!) is essential—your skin will thank you. I also think it’s a good practice to get regular facials. A trained esthetician can spot skin issues before they get out of hand. And a facial is a great stress reliever!
Are you adventurous when it comes to makeup?
Yes and no! When it comes to color cosmetics, I tend to take a more classic approach and wear mostly neutrals. But I’m not afraid to go for a bright blush or a bold eyeliner.
What are, in your opinion, the best hair, makeup and nail trends this summer?
Thanks to the Gatsby movie, short hair is having a moment, which I love because it’s so versatile. For makeup, the bright pink lip is really on-trend now and it’s one that women can adapt to without spending a lot of money. And nails! I love the aquatic colors for nails right now, especially the polishes from Dior and Chanel.
What products do you always carry with you?
Generally I always carry Chanel’s powder compact and a variety of lip balms, lip glosses and lipsticks. It’s not exaggerating to say that I usually have a minimum of 8 or 10 lippies in my purse. Currently loving the Votre Vu French Accents Vitamin E Lip Gloss (in Charming), which is conditioning and not sticky!
If you had to Pamp your favorite product of all-time, what would it be?
That question is SO HARD, but I would have to say Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I’ve used it since it came out and still love it as much today!
