New year, new beauty. Graphic liner, negative space manicures, bright pink lips: there are so many exciting trends for 2015. Make it your resolution to try them all! Start the new year right by discovering the fifteen biggest trends of the year, and begin checking them off your beauty bucket list.
One of the biggest beauty trends to come out of the Spring ’15 runways was graphic liner. Cat eyes and wings are staples, but sometimes you need to spice things up. Play around and experiment – use a liquid liner pen as your tool and your eyes as the canvas.
A graphic eye too wild for you? Add some extra oomph to your eye look with a swipe of pretty colored liner. From simply navy to flattering greens and purples to daring hot pink, there’s a multitude of options to test out. Urban Decay has a fantastic selection of hues.
Super Smoky Eyes
The smoky eye will always be a tried-and-true trend; something you can always go for and know will look beautiful. Take it to the next level this year. Smoke it out to the max, using black and gray shadows, plus black liner. Unleash your inner rock chick. Get the look with the phenomenal Smashbox Full Exposure Palette. Almay’s Smoky-i palette shows you where to apply what shade, making it foolproof.
Sleek, Low Ponytails
The spring runways were all about the pony…the low pony, to be exact. This ‘do is a win-win: it looks elegant, but only takes about a minute to create. Make sure hair is frizz-free (Agave Oil Treatment is my new savior), then pull it back with an elastic that matches your hair color. Make it look professional by wrapping a piece around the elastic, and keep it in place with a bobby pin.
It’s possible to achieve that ‘wet’ hair look seen all over the runways without risking pneumonia! Work Oribe’s Rock Hard Gel or LA Looks Wet Look Gel through damp hair and comb, style and scrunch away until you get your desired look.
Bright Pink Lips
There’s always a bright color that takes over lips across the country. Last spring was all about orange. While I personally find orange to be beautiful and striking, many thought it was a little bit too out there. Hot pink is a bright that’s a bit easier to sport. It looks fantastic on virtually every skin tone, and adds girly charm to any look. Pair it with a black cat eye, and you’re good to go. Try the delicious Candy Yum Yum by MAC or Maybelline’s ColorSensational in Fuchsia Flash.
I will always associate the lob with that enviable ‘model-off-duty’ look. It comes across as effortlessly cool, chic and put-together. Straighten your lob for an elegant, classic look, or wear it curly for a laid-back vibe.
Sleek and Chic Buns
Sleek buns are quite possibly my favorite hairstyle. It’s sophisticated and keeps all of your hair out of your face. Go for it anytime you’re wearing lip gloss; there’s nothing worse than stray hairs getting stuck to your glossy lips.
Barrettes were rumored to be big in 2015, but I didn’t really believe it until I saw it all over the red carpet at the Golden Globes. From the girls of Girls to the incredible Emma Stone, it seems like every It girl is on-board with this childhood-accessory-gone-high-fashion trend.
Berry lips are here to stay. When you think of classic lip colors, nude and red probably pop into your mind, but I want to make a declaration: by the end of 2015, berry will be added to that list.
Braids, Braids, Braids
If you’ve finally mastered the fishtail, you’re in luck! Braids (messy! sleek! mermaid! milkmaid!) are in this year. It’s the perfect style when you’re having a bad hair day…no one needs to know.
It’s the ‘I Woke Up Like This’ look upgraded! Dewy makeup is so ethereal and romantic. It’s just gorgeous. Achieving it is actually easier than you might think: apply some Vaseline or Aquaphor to your eyelids and the tops of your cheekbones for a beautiful glow.
White eyeliner is a little trick makeup artists have been using for years to create appearance of bigger and brighter eyes. It seems like the beauty insider tip will be hitting the mainstream this year. Test out the style with NYX’s Jumbo Milk Liner or Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes.
I’m like a little kid when it comes to makeup…I will fall for anything shiny and sparkly, which is why I’m so happy metallic is still on-trend. If you haven’t tried Stila’s Magnificent Metals Foil Finish shadow, it’s worth the splurge. Kitten is gorgeous. For a more wallet-friendly option, go with NYX’s Ultra Pearl Mania – I can’t believe it’s only $3!
Negative Space Manicures
The biggest nail trend this year? Negative space manis. Instead of painting your entire nails, concentrate on only a specific area. Have a striper or dotter in hand and get creative with abstract designs and fun colors!
