BEAUTY HACKS: VOLUME I

You can have a makeup bag brimming with all of the latest products, a vanity overflowing with skincare goods…but sometimes you just want a quick DIY or an updo that only looks like it took a long time to do. Read on for the first chapter in our new series, Beauty Hacks, your guide to shortcuts, tips and tricks to get you beautiful in a pinch.

MAKEUP

If falsies irritate your eyes, try this trick to get major, full lashes: dip a Q-tip in baby powder and run it across your lashes after applying your first coat of mascara. Then apply your second coat, which will be much more dramatic since it’s adhered to the powder.

An oldie, but a goodie: if you’re in a pinch, lipstick (like Natalie from NARS’ Audacious collection) can easily double as a cream blush. Just make sure to blend, blend, blend with your fingers!

Use a white liner (love NYX’s Jumbo in Milk) to brighten your eyeshadow and make your entire look POP!

If you’ve run out of cream liner, but long for a cat eye, use an angled brush to grab some product from your mascara wand. It creates the same effect.

Apply your favorite highlighter around the outline of your lips to bring attention there, even if you’re wearing a neutral color.

HAIR

Did you know that your towel could be causing major frizz? The tough fibers could roughen up your hair shaft – dry your hair with a T-shirt instead.

Girls with thick hair know this all too well: bobby pins NEVER stay in place. To get them to stop slipping, place them on a paper towel and spritz them with hairspray!

Beachy waves in less than 5 minutes! Spritz your hair with sea salt spray (Bumble and bumble’s is incredible), put it into two Princess Leia buns and blast the blow dryer. Leave the buns for 20 minutes or so to set, then just run your fingers through it for perfect waves.

Dry shampoo is tricky – nothing is worse than that dreaded look of white powder. To avoid this, apply your dry shampoo before you go to bed, not in the morning – this will help work the product into your hair.

If your hair is staticky, run a dryer sheet through it — this will eliminate any static and your hair will smell great!

SKIN

A classic Pampadour tip: use coconut oil as a makeup remover – it has so many good uses, though. Just search for ‘coconut oil’ on the feed to see why we’re obsessed!

Use a baking soda mask as a DIY solution to blackheads. Add water to baking soda so that it becomes creamy, leave it on until it dries, then wipe it off with a damp cloth. Make sure to moisturize after!

Use lip balm as a cuticle treatment in a pinch – it moisturizes and hydrates the delicate area.

Use conditioner instead of soap when you run out of shaving cream! Legs will be silky smooth and the shave will last longer.

Got a blemish that you need to go away ASAP? Dab some honey on the spot and cover with a Band-Aid. Let it sit overnight – honey keeps skin sterile, kills the bacteria and jumpstarts healing.

NAILS

If your manicure starts to chip, paint a coat of glitter nail polish (like Milani’s Gilded Rocks) over it to conceal the cracks and add an extra coat of protection.

Start with a base coat of white nail polish to make any manicure brighter and more vibrant!

If you’re in a rush, dip your nails in a bowl of ice cold water for 1-3 minutes – your drying time will be cut in half!

Love matte nails? Make your own matte nail polish by mixing your favorite loose powder eyeshadow (LOVE the ice blue Lumi by Sugarpill Cosmetics) with clear polish.

Out of nail polish remover? Don’t pick at your nails — try applying a clear top coat to your nails, then quickly removing it with a cotton ball.
