2014 was arguably the most innovative, progressive year for the beauty world to date. It seems like every day there was an exciting new product launch or highly anticipated collection release. Join us to look back on our favorite beauty products of the year, from cosmetics to skincare to tools.
LORAC Mega Pro: This ginormous palette is every shadow lover’s dream. When LORAC announced they were releasing this palette as a limited edition for the holiday season, it created pandemonium. Twice the size of a standard PRO Palette, it contains 32 buttery, easy-to-blend shadows in a rainbow’s assortment of colors. In addition to the colors, the shadows come in both matte and shimmer finishes. Out of the 32 shades, only 4 can be found in their previous palettes, so it’s incredibly unique. It came as no surprise to anyone that it flew off the shelves.
Anastasia Palettes & Shadows: Throughout the year, Anastasia wisely collaborated with Insta-famous makeup artists (Maya Mia, Amrezy, Tamanna) on pretty, compact palettes. These sets built up anticipation for her biggest release of the year – dozens of single shadows, from matte to shimmer to pearl. And, yes, they are all stunning.
Makeup Geek – Peach Smoothie: Makeup Geek eyeshadows are renowned in the beauty world for their high quality and low prices. At $5.99 each, you can customize your palette to create a kit that’s perfect for you. The one color in everyone’s Z-palette? Peach Smoothie. The peachy beige matte shadow, made popular by Instagram star Samantha of Batalash Beauty, is the ultimate transition shade. It can be used to pull together virtually any look.
Urban Decay Electric Palette: If you dare to go bold with your shadow, this is the palette for you! The shockingly saturated neon colors are sure to attract attention wherever you go. It was definitely one of the more fun releases this year. Surprisingly, the palette also works for people who tend to create more natural looks. Use one or two of the shades with a natural eye to add a creative twist.
MAC’s Greatest Collaborations: MAC truly stepped it up this year. The legendary brand has always been close to perfection, but 2014 was unparalleled. It seemed like they had an exciting new collaboration set up every few weeks. The standouts? This summer’s Alluring Aquatics, their Brooke Shields collection and the luxurious Prabal Gurung collab. Here’s to 2015 being even more awe-inducing!
Marc Jacobs The Dreamer Palette: Pampadour co-founder Jennifer adores this neutral, wearable shadow palette from Marc Jacobs. MJ has really made a splash on the beauty scene this year, and this palette might be his best launch yet. Very excited to see what he has in store for us next year!
Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette: Too Faced’s now-iconic palette is one of the most pamped products in Pampadour history. The palette features every color you could possibly need to create a beautiful neutral or smoky eye, and that faint hint of cocoa is the perfect touch to top it off. It’s no surprise that they followed up this success with the equally gorgeous Semi-Sweet Palette.
MUFE Artist Shadows: These extremely blendable, vivd eyeshadows are any beauty lover’s dream. Available in literally hundreds of colors and a wide variety of finishes, these shadows are incredibly fun to experiment with. It’s rare for such pigmented colors to blend so easily, but MUFE has pulled it off!
Stila Eyes Are the Window Palette in Soul: This 12-shadow palette is ideal for creating a classic, striking smoky eye. It’s so wearable. It’s the perfect complement to a bold lip. Plus, it features Stila’s iconic shadow shade, the shimmery Kitten!
Smashbox Masterclass Palette 3: This all-in-one palette features tons of beautiful shadows, bronzer, highlighter, a contour shade and three blushes. At a fairly reasonable $65, you really get a lot for your buck. The standout for me are the pretty pastel shades – they allow you to create ultra-feminine looks. Plus, they blend incredibly well.
Eddie Funkhouser Quattro Variable Lash Mascara: Eddie Funkhouser’s innovative and affordable mascara allows the user to crank up the volume and intensity of the product depending on the look they’re going for. Use the first dial for a natural daytime coating and the fourth for a sultry, party look.
NYX Color Mascara in Blue Dream: NYX’s cobalt blue mascara was the perfect addition to any summer beauty look. The vibrant hue complements blue and brown eyes beautifully. One coat supplies only a hint of color, which looks really gorgeous when it catches the light. It doesn’t hurt that it was so affordable…not too many people want to splurge on a $30 colored mascara!
YSL Baby Doll: This mascara is definitely pricey, but it’s unbelievable. It lengthens, volumizes, curls and separates. It really looks like you’re wearing falsies when you use it. Definitely worth the splurge.
Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara: Pampadour co-founder Jennifer received the ultimate mascara compliment when wearing this: “are your lashes real?!” Yes, this mascara gives the look of falsies. That should be all the convincing you need!
UD 24/7 Liners: Urban Decay’s liners glide on so smoothly, and they last all day (almost unheard of for pencil liner). These are perfect for the waterline – it’s the only liner that stays put for me in that tricky area. Plus, they come in a such a wide, fun assortment of colors.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner: This is, bar none, the best liquid liner pen. The felt tip makes application so precise and easy, even a beginner can create a flawless winged tip with it. It does not dry out quickly, which is the number one thing I look for in a liquid liner, and the jet black color is perfectly intense.
L’Oreal Infallible Liquid Gel Liner: This fantastically creamy, inexpensive gel liner is a great drugstore find. Conveniently, it comes along with a little brush that makes application incredibly easy. The best part of gel liner? The crazy staying power. Use this, and know that your cat eye won’t budge all night.
NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk: NYX as a whole is an incredible brand, but this pencil is truly a standout. It is so diverse. Use it as a shadow primer to make colors really pop, or use it as an inner eye and waterline brightener. Even use it on the middle of your lips and blend to make them appear fuller.
House of Lashes: When it comes to lashes, House of Lashes is the resounding favorite on Pampadour. It seems like everyone from Instagram MUAs to novices turn to this brand to complete their party looks. The most popular type on the site is the appropriately named Iconic.
Velour Lashes: What’s the secret to JLo and other celebrities’ lush, full, beautiful lashes? Mink! These reusable falsies by Velour Lashes can be used up to 25 times. You’ll be hooked after one use.
Anastasia Brow Wiz: Anastasia is really the eyebrow pro, and this pencil is arguably the best on the market. Use it to naturally fill in and define your brows. With the Brow Wiz, anyone can have Cara Delevingne, covetable eyebrows.
Milani Brow Fix Kit: This handy kit by Milani makes it easy to get gorgeous groomed brows. The set features two brows powder, a highlighter, mini-tweezer, brow brush and sponge applicator – AKA everything you could possibly need!
Anastasia Dipbrow: I’d bet that it’s impossible to find a Instagram or YouTube beauty guru who hasn’t recommended this brow pomade at least once. The waterproof formula defines brows in a natural, yet beautiful way. It is extremely buildable. Start with a light layer, and add to it until you get your desired look.
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer: At $52, this primer is definitely an investment, but it will last you a lifetime. Only a drop is enough to prime your entire face, minimizing pores and leaving skin matte, smooth and beautiful. I can’t picture getting ready for a big night out without using this first.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion: UD really outdid themselves with this product. No shadow primer compares. Just a bit of product on your lids makes shadows brighter, last longer and you don’t ever have to worry about creasing. Everyone should have this in their arsenal.
Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer: This multitasking set from Stila makes achieiving flawless skin as easy as 1-2-3. The oil-free set features a foundation, corresponding concealer, spatula and mini-brush. If you have problematic skin or discoloration, this provides great coverage.
ELF Foundation: This may be my most surprising beauty purchase ever. It’s unbelievable that this incredible foundation is only $6 (and often on sale for half the price). The coverage is fantastic and it gives off a natural, luminous glow. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Chanel Les Beiges: There’s nothing quite like a Chanel compact. It’s iconic, glam and luxurious. The Les Beiges compact gives off a hint of coverage and a beautiful glow. Plus, it has SPF 15! Use it on top of your foundation for a sheer finish.
NARS Creamy Concealer: I have spent years searching for the perfect concealer – a product that brightens under eyes, provides coverage, doesn’t crease and blends easily. Thankfully I’ve finally found my holy grail in NARS’ Creamy Concealer. I really think I’ll be using this forever.
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: The name of this MAC concealer is apt – it really lasts and lasts. Use it for a party or big night out. It covers dark circles and brightens eyes. Just be careful to not pump too much — if you do, though, use it to cover up blemishes and prime your lids!
Hourglass Blush Trio: This trio of blushes is almost too pretty to use. The three shades – rose, peach and plum – are all beautiful in their own ways. Definitely something to keep at the forefront of your vanity.
Milani Baked Blushes: These blushes are a hidden drugstore treasure. All of the shades, especially Luminoso, are incredibly long-wearing, radiant and wearable. Honestly just as good or even better than most pricier alternatives.
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blushes: If you’re looking for a long-lasting blush, this should be your go-to. These little blushes pack on color like crazy, but it’s important to remember that just a bit goes a very long way. Build it up gradually so that you don’t overdo it.
MUFE HD Blush: I was never so into cream blush until Pampadour users began raving about Make Up For Ever’s HD Blush. The creamy formula melts into your cheeks for a natural, radiant flush of color. The product blends incredibly well, allowing for a surprising amount of control.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer: This matte bronzer is ideal for contouring or providing all-over, natural color. The long-lasting formula is waterproof, so feel free to wear it by the pool or beach.
Anastasia Contour Kit: This set caused quite a commotion in the beauty world. All of a sudden, you could easily create a Kardashian-worthy look from the comfort of your own bathroom. Using the light colors to highlight and the darker ones to contour, this set allows you to create an airbrushed, professional look yourself.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal: Everyone on Pampadour who has used this product is absolutely obsessed. The soft, golden compact gives off a radiant glow that looks like you just got back from a tropical vacation.
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick: The Shimmer Brick is a recent discovery, though it’s not a new product. I really wish I’d heard about it sooner! It is the best highlighter I’ve ever used. A quick swipe on top of your cheekbones gives you an ethereal, luminous glow. If you’re into shimmer, invest in this without a doubt.
NARS Audacious: The color range of this new collection by NARS is beautiful, from creamy nudes to bold pinks and reds. On top of that, the opacity and intensity of these lipsticks is really top of the line. NARS really stepped it up with this line.
Colour Pop: Colour Pop recently blew up on Pampadour, and with good reason! Affordable, innovative, cute packaging…this is one brand that will (and should!) become even more popular in 2015.
NYX Matte Lip Cream: All NYX lip products are great (especially considering how inexpensive they are), but Matte Lip Creams are my personal favorite. They dry like a stain, but your lips remain hydrated. Just one swipe is enough to keep your lips colored the entire night. Everyone should pick up one (or two. Or three!) of these underrated lippies.
Lime Crime Wicked Velvetine: When Pampadour users want a vampy, deep wine lip, they often turn towards this stain by Lime Crime. It applies like a liquid and dries matte. Perfect for a long night, because this will last for hours and hours. Keep in mind that it’s not the most hydrating lippie. Keep a moisturizing lip balm handy.
Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Menace: This rich wine lipstick from Buxom was one of the standouts from Sephora’s Give Me More Lip set. The luxurious lipstick gently plumps your lips and dries into a stunning satin finish.
Bite Beauty: Bite Beauty is confident that they do lips well, so that’s what they focus on. This just might be my favorite lipstick line ever. Gorgeous colors, innovative applicators, incredibly lightweight – Bite Beauty has it all!
YSL Lipsticks: I (and a lot of other Pampadour users) am a sucker for beautiful packaging, and that’s what initially drew me to YSL’s gorgeous lipsticks. On top of the glam gold tubes, the actual lipsticks are intensely hydrating and give off a radiant shine to enhance your beautiful smile.
Tarte Lipsurgence: This is the ultimate on-the-go lip product. It reacts to the natural pinks in your lips and gives every user a personalized shade that is super flattering. The more swipes, the pinker your lips. I can’t picture anyone not loving this amazing product.
Too Faced Melted Lipstick: I wasn’t expecting to be so impressed by this product, but I am now addicted. Surprisingly easy to apply, impeccable color payoff and hydrating, this is my new favorite for a bright lipped look.
GlamGlow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment: Using this mask is the closest thing to getting a full spa experience at home. Apply the charcoal mask to your face and watch it virtually work and pull out blackheads before your eyes. It is pricey, but sometimes you have to just treat yourself!
Hampton Sun Tanning Gel: This tanning gel, infused with vitamins A through E and SPF 15, goes on lightweight and silky, giving you comfortable sun protection. Your skin will feel healthy and rejuvenated, and, yes, you will get a beautiful glow.
Embryolisse 24-Hour Miracle Cream: This is the secret weapon of renowned makeup artists, models and celebs. The intensely hydrating moisturizer preps skin for makeup application, and can also be used afterward as a makeup remover.
Josie Maran Argan Milk: This treatment serum by Josie Maran hydrates and rejuvenates skin. Infused with her signature Aragan oil, this serum refreshes skin, leaving you with a natural, radiant glow.
Coconut Oil: The best beauty product you can find in your local supermarket! Coconut oil is such a beauty multitasker. Use it to remove even the most stubborn eye makeup, as a nourishing moisturizer or swish it around in your mouth to whiten your teeth.
MAC Fast Response Eye Cream: This caffeinated eye cream instantly de-puffs tired eyes and erases the appearance of dark circles. Use it to firm and soothe the sensitive area around your eyes.
Babor Collagen Booster Cream: This lightweight anti-aging cream sinks into your skin and leaves you hydrated and glowing. It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin.
Briogeo: Briogeo is a natural, clean, concise hair care line that has everything you need for beautiful hair. My personal favorite is the Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask, which leaves hair unbelievably silky and shiny.
Klorane Dry Shampoo: Finally! A dry shampoo that works for everybody, including brunettes! It does leave a bit of white residue, but unlike many other dry shampoos, it brushes out easily. Use it and extend the life of your blowout by a couple of days.
CND Vinylux: If your nails chip easily, but aren’t comfortable with the UV rays involved with gel manicures, Vinylux is what you’ve been waiting for. Rest assured that your manicure will remain shiny and chip-free, like a gel, for an entire week, but it comes off with simple nail polish remover. Amazing.
Louboutin Polishes: Arguably no new foray into beauty caused as much of a commotion this year as Christian Louboutin’s nail polish line. Over-the-top and irresistible, just like the heels that came before them, these polishes are a sight to see. It defines something you don’t need (ringing in at $50!), but you most definitely want.
NARS Ita Brush: This brush is undeniably expensive, but if you want a flawless contoured look, this will make the process much easier. Use it to create strong and defined, yet natural cheekbones.
Shiseido Eyelash Curler: This is, in my opinion, the best lash curler on the market. I have big eyes, and it grabs every lash in one go. Give lashes a few gentle pumps and it really looks like you’ve applied falsies. A few coats of mascara and you’re set!
Rodan + Fields AMP MD System: Bring the dermatologist home with this anti-aging system by Rodan + Fields. Use the roller, which has teeny tiny needles, over your face. It will create tiny holes that will trigger a collagen-boosting response and younger, plumper skin.
Beauty Blender: The holy grail beauty tool! This little pink sponge is every makeup artist’s secret to creating a flawless, airbrushed-looking complexion. Dampen the sponge and use it to carefully apply your foundation, powder and concealer. Everybody should have one in their vanity.
