SKINCARE

THE NEXT BIG THING

The last time you heard of mitochondria, you were probably sitting in biology class or watching the Big Bang Theory. Mitochondria are known to be the “powerhouses” of the cells. They take the nutrients. break them down, and convert them into energy. Why should you care? Well, they carry the secret to keeping you young and pretty.

It was the target of a ten year research study that delivered us what might be the next big thing in skincare, MitoQ. This new cream contains mitoquinol, an ingredient claiming to be 1,000 times stronger than Q10, a molecule used in the best anti-aging products out there. The patented molecule reaches deep down to your mitochondria -rejuvenating the cells and encouraging production of elastin and collagen. It promises the fading of fine lines, wrinkles and scars within 30 days, reduction of blemishes, spots and scars, and softer skin in only 3 days.

Already a major player in the international beauty game, the anticipated MitoQ is now available in the US. Science never looked so good.

Now that Girls Gone Wild has gone bankrupt, find some new ways to have fun on Spring Break. Here are the 10 Dos and Don’ts for your tropical vacation.

DO drink lots of water. Make sure it’s bottled, and not local, though… Everyone remembers that scene from the first Sex and the City movie, right?! Poor Charlotte…

DON’T forget about sunscreen. The higher the SPF, the better. Everyone knows the long-term benefits of sun protection, but also keep in mind, in the short term, you don’t want to end up stuck in your hotel room for half the trip with third degree burns.

DO try something adventurous and new. From parasailing to jet skiing to swimming with dolphins, a vacation is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone.

DON’T lose anything important! Always keep an eye on your wallet, ID, phone and camera. Not only do you need your ID for getting back home, but you won’t be able to get into any clubs without it (that got your attention, didn’t it?).

DO go bold with your makeup. Be it bright pink lips or thick cat eyes, makeup will look even better than usual with your glowing tan…great time to experiment with your beauty looks!

DON’T drink to the point of blacking out. Yes, spring break is the time to let loose and party, but hangovers are not.

DO moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Even the darkest of tans won’t look good if it’s dry and flaky. Make sure to moisturize the second you get out of the sun every evening. It will ensure a longer lasting, more radiant glow.

DON’T go anywhere alone. Leaving your friends for a random hook-up might seem like fun at 3 AM, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

DO rock a stylish and easy ponytail. In the sweltering heat, everyone wants to look as cool and comfortable as possible. Keep your hair up and out of your face for a majorly relaxed and cute vibe. It’s also prime time to wear a glam floppy hat or headband.

DON’T forget to have fun! You deserve a break, so use this week to have have the best time with friends and make long-lasting memories.

HD SKIN WITH JOANNA VARGAS

In an HD world, TV and movie actors need more then ever to have smooth, clear and healthy skin. Joanna Vargas is the go-to facialist for many. Just call her the skin savior to the stars, who literally call her from the set for any “skin emergency”. With her revolutionary skincare treatments, she has cultivated a devout following in Hollywood and the world of fashion. Her clients, including Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Sofia Coppola and Zac Posen, are known for their flawless skin.

With red carpets appearances, unflattering close ups and constant assaults from the paparazzi, their skin needs to be luminous 24/7. That’s where Joanna’s special VitaLight skincare treatment comes in. It uses LED light therapy to help cells regenerate, repair collagen, reduce inflammation and sun spots, and slow the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a non-invasive procedure that doesn’t leave signs or redness on skin, and promises great results after 30 minutes a week for six weeks.

If you can’t make it to Joanna Vargas New York spa, there are some products available for at-home use, like Joanna Vargas Daily Serum, a hydrating cream which leaves you with a radiant glow, or her Rejuvenating Serum, a lightweight face oil that helps with facial circulation. The Rejuvenating Serum gives you that extra boost, perfect for long flights or a preparing for a special occasion.

Joanna Vargas believes that what you put in your body is just as important as what goes on it, in terms of caring for your skin, a wisdom that she shares with her clients. “Include vegetables in every meal…even breakfast. Put some spinach in your morning omelette, it will help reduce puffiness in your face.” She also wholeheartedly recommends drinking green juices. These miracle drinks oxygenate skin, aid with lymphatic drainage and reduce water retention. For clients who don’t have ready access to these elixirs, Vargas suggests picking up liquid chlorophyll from the local health store for daily use.

Feeling like a skin emergency is coming! When can we book an appointment?!

“I think I could be the voice of my generation. Or… a voice. Of a generation.” It’s safe to say that no show has made more of an impact on pop culture in recent history than HBO’s Girls. Not since Carrie Bradshaw appeared on our TV screens in her six inch Manolos has a show been more scrutinized for its cultural influence.

This past January, nail guru Deborah Lippmann released a polish collection inspired by the four very different girls on the hit show. Lippmann has given fans an opportunity to try on each personality for themselves. Hannah is a muddy hunter green, slightly weird and definitely unique, just like Lena Dunham herself. Marnie is a classic, safe baby pink. Pretty, prissy and proper… simply Marnie. Shoshanna is a bright, refreshing lavender. Trendy and feminine, it’s right on point. Jessa is a deep, seductive burgundy. Dark and sexy, it perfectly encompasses the character’s boho mystique.

This line of polish got us thinking… What if we had to imagine each character beauty cabinet?  Take a look and find which one would fit better your personality, maybe you will find a bit of Shosh in you….

HANNAH

Smith’s Rosebud Salve – Hannah’s the kind of girl who would consider Chapstick makeup, so it’s a safe bet that she would love simple Rosebud Salve. – $7

Bond No. 9 Brooklyn Cologne for Men – Hannah would wear cologne over perfume to make some sort of statement. And she would want to pay homage to the borough that inspires her so much with this Brooklyn-themed scent. – $240

MARNIE

NARS Blush in ‘Orgasm’ – Marnie would definitely rely on this beauty classic for her cheeks. The soft pink would look soft and pretty on her skin. – $28

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara – The most popular mascara in America, with the signature pink and green case, Marnie would have this in her bag at all times for quick touchups. – $5

SHOSHANNA

Mason Pearson Hairbrush – Can’t you picture girly girl Shoshanna sitting in front of her vanity mirror at night, counting her brushstrokes until she hits 100? A timeless Mason Pearson brush would definitely be on her dresser. – $99

NARS Lip Lacquer in ‘Baby Doll’ – This bubblegum pink gloss is unbelievably girly. Bright and long lasting, it can be worn at day or night. – $25

Aquolina Pink Sugar Eau de Toilette Spray – Instantly recognizable, this scent is so sweet and sugary… it smells exactly like cotton candy. Not for everyone, but it is definitely a Shoshanna product. She would spritz it every day. – $45

JESSA

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in ‘Good to be Bad’ – This super shiny burgundy lipstick is vampy and alluring. A perfect complement to the Jessa polish. – $16

MAC Eye Shadow in ‘Typographic’ – This dark, matte shadow is mysterious and sexy, just like the British badass of the series. It’s great for a smoky eye. – $15
