It can be very easy to fall into a makeup routine: neutral eyes, a little black liner and nude lips. It’s classic, beautiful and simple — but half the fun of makeup is experimenting with your look, getting creative and finding something totally unique that works for you! Incorporate some color into your makeup looks this spring. Keep reading for our favorite wearable ways to add a vibrant pop of color to your looks.
Colorful Smoky: A bold smoky eye using colored shadows is a surefire way to turn heads. It’s the perfect way to make your evening look stand out amongst a sea of cat eyes and red lips. Get inspired by checking out our roundup of colorful smoky looks. As for a palette to achieve a bright smoky, try Morphe’s 35S Palette – there are so many shades to choose from!
Inner Corner Pop: Nothing opens up your eyes quite like adding a light, shimmery color to the inner corner of your eye. Typically, a white or champagne shade is used, but try using a bright color instead. An interesting color – perhaps a sunny yellow or a bold pink – could make for an beautiful and surprising look. Anastasia Eye Shadow Singles are richly pigmented and won’t fade away or crease.
Colored Mascara: Colored mascara sounds like it’s more extreme than it actually is. While you can definitely build it up for super impact, applying just a coat or two will give your eyes a subtle, fresh pop. My favorite way to wear a colored formula is to only apply it to the tips of my top lashes and put a few coats on my lower lashes. Try NYX Color Mascara – every shade, from Mint Julep to Blue Dream, is springtime perfection.
Cat Eye: Swap out your traditional black eyeliner with a bolder color for an easy way to make your eyes stand out. Blue, green and purple are three flattering shades that are easy to pull off and instantly demand attention. If you want to go extra bold, try a yellow or pink, or even a metallic shade. ColourPop has an extensive collection of Creme Gel Liners in every color you can think of. They glide on with ease, are opaque and long-lasting…plus, they’re only $6 each!
Bold Waterline: A colorful waterline is the easiest way to add a fresh burst of color to your makeup look. The options are endless: add white to brighten up your eyes, add turquoise to look vacation-ready, add plum for a sultry and sophisticated look… During the spring, a shimmery blue or mint would provide the perfect contrast to an otherwise neutral look – get inspired by Temptalia, above. If you want to make the look even bolder, use a smudge brush to diffuse the liner onto your lower lash line. Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner is creamy, long-wearing and comes in tons of bold and vivid shades.
Vibrant Cheeks: Don’t be afraid of a bright cheek! It’s an instant way to perk up your complexion and give off a healthy glow. Try a hot pink, orange or even red blush. Apply it onto the apples of your cheeks with a synthetic brush. If it looks too dramatic, simply blend it in until you get your desired effect, keeping the most color on the apples. A classic red is NARS’ Exhibit A Blush.
Bright Lips: The modern way to wear a bold lip? Keep everything else super simple – fresh, clean skin and a few swipes of mascara. As for the lip color itself, red is a classic, but for spring, go out of your comfort zone a try something different. A punchy pink, cool coral or radiant orange are all stunning and look good on pretty much everyone. Currently loving the Marc Jacobs Le Marc line – they’re pricey, but they are so pigmented, creamy and stay on all night. Willful, a deep orchid, is such a unique and gorgeous color.
Neon Nails: If you’re a deeper nude lipstick is your idea of a bolder makeup look and you really won’t budge from your neutrals, you can still get in on the fresh color trend this spring…with your nails! Nails are such a simple and easy way to play around with color. It’s such a fun way to express your mood – green one day, pink-and-red the next…let your creativity flow. Currently, I’m loving cheery yellow nails for spring. Try OPI’s I Just Can’t Cope-Acabana.
