Follow these simple tips to ensure stronger, glossier nails and more chip-free manicure days…
SAY ‘NO’ TO CUTTING CUTICLES: No matter what, never cut your cuticles, whether you’re giving yourself a mani or getting it done at a salon. The cuticle protects your delicate nails from bacteria & fungus – without this barrier, you’re very susceptible to infections. It’s ideal to just keep them super moisturized, but if they’re too high up on your nails, you can gently push them back.
MOISTURIZE OVERNIGHT WITH OLIVE OIL AND COCOA BUTTER: There’s nothing like a fun beauty DIY – it’s like getting a spa treatment in the comfort of your own home. To get the best possible cuticles, follow these simple steps:
1. Soak your fingers in warm water for a few minutes.
2. Push your cuticles back gently with an orange stick.
3. Mix 3 tbsp with 1 tbsp of olive oil, and heat for 30 seconds.
4. Rub the concoction onto your nail beds and cuticles. Wear gloves, go to sleep and voila!
GLASS FILES ALL THE WAY: Don’t even think about using metal files – go with glass, which is cleaner and healthier for your nails. Both options seem a little intimidating? The classic emery boards are totally fine…just make sure to replace them often.
SOAKING ISN’T HELPING: The five minute soak is a standard step of a salon manicure, but did you know that foregoing this could help a mani last longer? Soaking could dry out your cuticles, so if you want to do this step, make sure to moisturize before and after.
ADD VINEGAR TO YOUR ROUTINE: After removing your polish, trimming, filing, buffing and moisturizing your nails, wipe a bit of vinegar on your nails. This removes any dirt or oil from your nails, leading to a better mani.
