Are you stuck in a liner rut? Your eye makeup, like any other hair or makeup look, is something you should switch up every once in a while to keep things fresh. Read on for four ways to play up your eyes – there’s something for everyone, from classic to daring!

RETRO BEAUTY: If you’re looking for a mod, retro look, winged eyes are the way to go. Use a gel liner (we’re devoted to Bobbi Brown’s) to create a thick line on your upper lashline, then draw the line up and outward for some ’60s flair. Let the liner dry before you open your eye to ensure there’s no smudging.

SWEET AND SIMPLE: Kohl pencil is the most basic of liners – it was probably the first one you ever purchased. There’s a reason, though, that it’s a permanent fixture in your makeup bag. It’s great for lining your waterline, or for subtly defining eyes during the daytime. Line your inner rims with MAC’s Eye Pencil in Ebony for definition that won’t smudge.

VA VA VOOM: Liquid liner pens have been popping up everywhere recently, and we’re more than grateful. These pens have felt-tipped applicators which make precise application much easier. Line your upper lash line – go thin for subtle definition or thick if you want a glam, nighttime look. Use a fun color, like Stila Stay All Day in Cobalt, for an extra pop!

GO BOLD: This look popped up on some of the hottest runways, from Michael Kors to Rag & Bone, but it’s not for the faint of heart. If you’re a beauty daredevil, use liquid liner (we like ELF’s – a great, inexpensive option) to line the crease of your eye, along with your upper lashline. It’s an artistic and daring look which will most certainly make a statement – confidence is key to pulling this look off!
