How to Look Fresh Faced This Summer

How to Look Fresh Faced This Summer

During the warmer months, less is truly more. No one wants to be weighed down by heavy foundations and powders – it’s all about using sheer, creamy products to get a luminous, natural glow. Play up the fresh faced, no-makeup makeup look this summer. Keep reading for tips on how to achieve the supermodel-beloved look and the best products to use!

MONOCHROMATIC, CREAM EYESHADOW: Part of achieving the coveted ‘no-makeup makeup’ look is eyes that look bright and awake. Put a drop of a brightening eye cream, like Clinique’s Pep Start ($26.50), under your eyes to hydrate and eliminate puffiness. Follow that up by applying a cream shadow in a neutral tone to your lids. Maybelline’s Color Tattoo in Creamy Beige ($5.99) is a wearable hue that won’t break the bank.

FULL BROWS & LASHES: Strong, groomed brows and fluttery lashes are also musts for the fresh-faced look. Forego eyeliner and apply multiple coats of your favorite volumizing mascara to amp up your lashes, like YSL’s The Shock ($29), getting as close to the roots as possible. If you have some sparse areas in your eyebrows, fill them in with a pencil (it looks more natural than a pomade or powder). Anastasia’s Brow Wiz ($21) is forever a classic. The key to this look is brows that will stay in place, no matter the weather. Swipe a coat of brow gel, like this one by Sephora Collection, to set them.

NIX THE FOUNDATION: While foundation makes your skin look like flawless airbrushed perfection, it can also look a bit heavy, especially during the day. Go for a tinted moisturizer instead, like Laura Mercier’s cult classic ($44). It provides just the sheerest amount of coverage, while hydrating and smoothing out texture. Packed with vitamins, it leaves skin with a radiant, healthy glow. If you want to conceal blemishes or certain problem areas, use a hydrating concealer, like Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost ($12.99), that won’t sink into fine lines or look cakey.

BRIGHTEN YOUR UNDER-EYE AREA: Use a brightening concealer, like IT Cosmetics’ Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Concealer ($24), to perk up your under-eye area. It will conceal any signs of fatigue or aging…plus, it’s waterproof. Make sure to set it with a light dusting of brightening powder, like Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder ($26). It will stop the concealer from slipping around, and adds a boost of luminosity to the entire area.

CREAM BLUSH: During the summer, put the powder blushes away. Cream and liquid blushes impart a much more natural, glowing flush. NARS has just launched a line of liquid blushes ($30) and they are game-changing. Just a little drop goes a very, very long way. Simply pat it onto the apples of your cheeks with your fingers or buff it in with a synthetic brush. So soft, feminine and pretty. If you prefer cream to liquid, RMS Beauty’s Lip2Cheek ($36) is a winner. It also doubles as a beautiful lip stain.

NON-TOURING: Non-touring, a pun on the Kardashian-famous contouring trend, is all about looking fresh and glowy. The best part? It’s so simple that anyone can master it. After applying your tinted moisturizer, apply a subtle, non-shimmery highlighter to the high points of your face. Cheekbones, bridge of your norse, brow bone and cupid’s bow. The Hourglass Ambient Strobe Light Powder ($38) is ideal for this look – luminous, yet natural at the same time.

STROBING: Non-touring taken to the next level is strobing. It’s essentially the same technique, but you use a light-catching shimmery highlighter rather than a more subdued version. This is perfect for a hot summer party where you just want to glow. From bronze to peach to pearl, the Sephora Illuminate Palette ($28) has different powder options so you can mix and match to create the perfect glow for every look.

POP OF COLOR ON YOUR LIPS: For the final step, add a pop of sheer color onto your lips with a tinted balm. No lip liner, no maintenance. Pop it into your purse or beach bag for quick touchups. YSL’s Volupte Tint-in-Balm ($34) is hydrating, slightly glossy and delivers the perfect punch of color. Go for a soft pink for a natural look, or a bright red or coral to jazz it up.
