Subscription boxes have made a huge splash in the beauty world over the past couple of years. It’s ideal for beauty junkies – a mix of samples and full-sized products show up at your door once a month. I’ve tried a bunch of subscription services, but I can confidently say that the one that consistently impresses me is none other than Ipsy. Read on for why I love Ipsy so much, the standout products I’ve received from them and more.
So, what exactly is Ipsy? Essentially, you’re sent a bag of 4-5 beauty goodies every month for only $10! Each bag consists of a variety of cosmetics, skincare, nail polish, tools, etc. The best part? Every product is customized to fit you. When you sign up for Ipsy, you’re prompted to take a quiz that will determine what kind of products you’ll receive. Love skin care? Let ‘em know! Have frizzy hair? They’ll send you hair serums. Not into nail polish? You won’t find any in your Ipsy bags.
Every month the products are sent in a perfectly-sized makeup bag. The look of the bags is kind of hit-or-miss, but the past few have been gorgeous. How beautiful would the one shown above be as a beach bag?! They’re perfect for travel – I just brought a couple with me on vacation, and my makeup was more organized than ever before.
In your bag, you’ll find a mix of both deluxe samples and full-sized products. Add up the individual values of your products, and you’ll see that it’s worth way more than $10. On top of that, there’s usually great promotions if you want to purchase full-sized versions of the products you sample (something I often do). It’s also great for discovering products you probably would never have tried otherwise. Plenty of indie or lesser-known brands are mixed in with the more popular ones, and some of my favorite Ipsy products have come from these under-the-radar lines. Check out some of the best products I’ve received in my Glam Bags over the past year, below.
Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser: I never walk into Sephora and go to the skincare section, even though I know it’s so important to take care of my skin. I’m just so much more tempted by the pretty, enticing cosmetics aisles. That’s why I love receiving skincare products in my Ipsy bags – it forces me to use the products I would never buy otherwise. This brightening facial cleanser by all-natural line Indie Lee is phenomenal. It’s so soft and gentle, and my skin feels softer and looks more luminous after one use.
ModelCo Blush in Cosmopolitan: I discuss my Ipsy bag every month with a bunch of my friends who subscribe, as well as with the community on Pampadour, and this product is the only one we all agree on…it’s incredible. I received it in Cosmopolitan, a ballerina pink that I never would have tried in the store. I figured there was nothing to lose, so I tried it one day, with low expectations. I was so shocked to discover that it went on as the perfect pink, amazing for every day use and it lasts forever. I use it every single day.
NYX Butter Lipstick in Hunk: There’s often one product from a well-known brand that every Ipster recieves in their Glam Bag – last month it was NYX’s Butter Lipstick. I was pumped – NYX is one of my all-time favorite brands. I was kind of disappointed though, when I opened it up and saw that I received a bright purple as my color. I would never in a million years wear purple lipstick. Orange, pink, red – love them all – but purple’s not for me…or so I thought. This is the beauty of Ipsy – I swiped on my new purple lipstick and instantly fell in love. It leans more towards magenta than full purple, and it complements my skin tone nicely. I actually ended up buying the other colors that were sent to Ipsters on my own. The texture of this lipstick is unbelievable.
Jor’el Parker Femina: I received the Femina rollerball in my April Glam Bag. I have never heard of the brand Jor’el Parker, but one sniff of this intoxicating scent and I was hooked. Soft, subtle and refreshing, this perfume has hints of lemon, grapefruit and vanilla. It’s fruity and floral without being overbearing. It’s going to be a permanent fixture in my everyday handbag – so convenient for touch-ups throughout the day.
Tarte Deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara: I really prefer using sample sized mascaras. I find that when I use a full-sized one, it dries up before I’m even halfway through with it. That’s why I get so excited when I receive mascara in my Ipsy bag. This Tarte one is the best one I’ve gotten so far. It separates all of my lashes, and the little wand is great for using on my lower lashes.
Ipsy is a must-have for beauty lovers. At only $10 a month, it’s truly worth it and I cannot recommend it enough. To sign up, click here. You’ll probably be placed on the wait list, but don’t worry – you should be off of it in a month or so.
