Beauty lovers know that half the fun is trying and testing out products, and discovering your personal holy grail must-haves. Over the summer, I’ve gone through dozens of beauty products (some well-known, others less so). The items below are now part of my permanent collection. Keep reading for eleven beauty picks I just can’t get enough of!
Essence Gel Waterproof Eye Pencil: I’ve been on the hunt for an eyeliner that will stay put in my waterline for years, and never found anything that lasted me an entire night unless I set it with shadow. To my relief, the search for my perfect waterline eye pencil is over…and the product costs less than three bucks!! Essence’s gel liner glides onto my waterline (no tugging or pulling required), stays in place for hours and is extremely pigmented. I also use it to tight line, and the outline my cat eye before I run a liquid liner over it. A must-try.
Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara: When it comes to mascara, I say the more volume, the better. Tarte’s latest mascara is obsession-worthy. You just need a few coats for voluminous, jet black, intense and dramatic lashes that will have people doing a double take. The brush makes it incredibly easy to coat every lash, while avoiding clumps. If you’re looking for that falsies-look without falsies, check this out.
Benefit Browvo! Conditioning Primer: Benefit’s new brow collection is phenomenal all-around, but this product is the standout for me. This primer performs double duty: it’s infused with keratin and soy proteins that promote hair growth (bye bye, sparse spots!) and acts as a brow gel of sorts. I use it before my brow pencil to brush my brows into place. After a month of consistent use, I truly see a difference in the sparser areas of my brows.
IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil: Universal is right! This brow pencil is so easy-to-use, natural-looking and somehow matches all brow colors. With this pencil, I can fill in my brows in less than a minute. I was always a loyal Brow Wiz fan, but I’ve been reaching for this product more and more recently. It’s infused with good-for-your-brows ingredients like green tea, biotin, vitamins A, C, E, and more.
BECCA Backlight Priming Filter: If you want to glow, you need to invest in this one-of-a-kind primer. BECCA’s products are known for giving you that glowy, luminous look, but this is a more subtle way to achieve the look. A little goes a long way; a drop is all you need. Massage the primer all over your face, and layer it with your favorite foundation. The finished look is a radiant, smooth, absolutely flawless complexion.
Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation: Honestly, my expectations weren’t too high for this foundation – there weren’t many reviews on it, since it was a new launch, and I usually reach for something with a dewier finish. That’s why I was blown away by how much I love this product. It’s, without a doubt, my new go-to for an evening look. The full-coverage, matte and waterproof formula covers every imperfection, but doesn’t look cakey or too heavy. I like to blend it in with my BeautyBlender for a natural finish. One thing to keep in mind is that the formula oxidizes and gets a bit darker when applied to skin. If you don’t want the foundation to look too dark, go with one shade lighter than your skin tone.
Too Faced Born This Way Concealer: If you’re searching for a concealer that does a great job of covering up imperfections, while feeling like truly nothing on your skin, the Born This Way concealer is for you. I’ve never used a concealer that was so weightless, yet concealed all of my dark spots so flawlessly. The creamy formula can be layered on top of foundation for extra coverage, but I prefer using it on ‘no makeup’ days to conceal dark spots.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder: I was always hesitant to try out this setting powder, despite the rave reviews. $38 for a powder just seemed so ridiculous to me; I couldn’t bring myself to justify the splurge. That all changed this summer: my skin was looking oilier than usual, and none of my setting powders were doing the trick. I decided to try out the LM powder, and I’m so glad I did. This translucent powder is unlike any other. It keeps oil in check all night, despite heat and humidity, and you only need a pinch of it, so a jar will last you a very long time.
Kardashian Beauty Lip Slayer Lipstick: I haven’t heard too much about Kardashian Beauty, so I didn’t really know what to expect when I received a free sample of the Lip Slayer Lipstick in Goals, a Kim-K-style pinky-nude. I am addicted to this lipstick – it’s incredible. So creamy, pigmented and comfortable to wear. It’s the best drugstore lipstick I’ve found since my beloved Maybelline Creamy Mattes. If you’re searching for a perfect nude, order Goals ASAP.
ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip in Metallic Finishes: ColourPop’s new glosses are everything you’d want them to be: pigmented, not-sticky, long-lasting. The metallic ones are especially intriguing, since there’s not too much like them on the market. I love applying them as a lip topper on top of liquid lipsticks for some extra dimension. The shade Tight Fit looks gorgeous on nude lips – apply it to just the center to create the illusion of fuller lips.
Wet ’n’ Wild Makeup Brushes: Brushes are very personal and everyone has their own preference – natural vs. synthetic, budget-friendly vs. investment pieces – but I must say Wet ’n’ Wild’s collection is fantastic, especially considering the price point. The packaging is adorable – all of the brushes are white with light pink tips. The bristles are super-soft and blend makeup easily, plus every brush is under three dollars!! Definitely pick up one or two the next time you spot them at the drugstore.
