UNITED STATES OF BEAUTY

With a majority of the top beauty brands manufacturing their items overseas, there’s something refreshing about companies that pride themselves on making products in the good ol’ USA. Here are some of our favorite All-American beauty brands.

Burt’s Bees – The lip balm masters, this classic company was established in Maine in 1984. Now based in North Carolina, the brand has vastly expanded its product line, but stays true to their original motto: “what you put on your body should be made from the best nature has to offer.” Try their classic Beeswax Lip Balm.

Kai – Gaye Straza founded Kai in sunny Malibu in 1999. Ever since, some of the world’s chicest stars like Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts can be counted as fans. Kai’s signature product is their Hawaii-inspired fragrance, but the brand has also come to include candles, body care and hair products.

Rosebud Perfume Company – This brand has been around for over a century – created in Woodsboro, Maryland in 1895 by G.F. Smith – but still produces its signature product, the multipurpose Rosebud Salve. The tin packaging of the balms adds a nostalgic touch.

Tarte – One of the newer companies on the list, Maureen Kelly founded Tarte in NYC in 2000. Quickly rising up the beauty ranks, this is one of the most popular brands out there due in part to its innovative products (adour their Cheek Stain) and natural ingredients.

Kiehl’s – Kiehl’s prides itself on its long legacy… founded as a sole pharmacy in 1851 in NYC’s East Village and growing into one of the premier skin/hair/body care lines on the market. All of their products are great, including Midnight Recovery Concentrate.

Benefit Cosmetics – Benefit began as a San Francisco beauty shop called The Face Place in 1976. It has grown to become one of America’s favorite beauty companies, loved for its witty and retro packaging and stellar quality. Watt’s Up! is a must-have.

Josie Maran – Model turned beauty mogul Josie Moran wanted to develop an eco-friendly line that featured biodegradable packaging and only healthy ingredients. Her line is not entirely American-made (75% is), but we love her products so much that we had to include it on this list. Her 100% Pure Argan Oil is a Pampadour favorite.

Tata Harper – A fairly new line, Tata Harper was established in Vermont in 2010, but it has made a big impact very quickly. The 100% natural products are made from ingredients found on the Harper family’s farm, Julius Kingdom. That’s about as local as you can get! Try Regenerating Cleanser for radiant skin.
