It’s a widely known fact that pre-gym beauty is not the smartest decision: it can lead to clogged pores and unwanted breakouts. If you’re reading this post, though, you’re probably a beauty addict and willing to take the risk over stepping foot out the door completely bare-faced. If you’re going to wear makeup to your workout, do it right. Read on for our guide to wearing makeup at the gym without harming your skin.
Everyone knows that you need to cleanse your face after your workout, but it’s just as important to wash up pre-gym. It’s necessary for keeping your pores unclogged…especially if you’re going to apply some makeup, too. Go with Neutrogena’s classic Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser.
Put. Your. Foundation. Down. Don’t even think about applying full coverage for the gym – it’s a recipe for breakouts. If you feel like you need a little coverage for some problem areas, go with a comparatively light tinted moisturizer or BB cream. Garnier’s BB Cream is specifically formulated for combination and oily skin. It’s gentle, oil-free and promises to not clog pores or cause breakouts. Plus, it has SPF 20, so you can use it for outdoor workouts, too. If you have a major red spot or blemish that a BB cream won’t cover up, use a bit of oil-free concealer, like Make Up For Ever’s fantastic Full Cover Concealer. It’s waterproof and super long-lasting – it will stay put through spinning, Pilates…even a swim!
Sweat + eye makeup is not an ideal combo. If you need a little something for your workout, it’s absolutely necessary that it’s waterproof. Start by giving your lashes a nice curl with Shiseido’s Lash Curler. Follow that up with a swipe of Maybelline Volum’ Express black mascara. It’s not the best idea to apply liner, but if you really must, go with Stila’s Stay All Day liner. It lives up to the name, so you won’t have to worry about smudging.
Walk into the gym with an obvious lipstick and you’re guaranteed to get a few stares…and not in a good way. If you need to have a little color on your lips to leave the house, go for a lip tint or moisturizing balm. Try the original Benetint. The pretty rose flush can double as cheek color, too.
Want to add a little ‘oomph’ to your look? Don’t underestimate the power of strong, groomed brows. Use a spooly to brush them up and into place, then swipe a coat of clear brow gel. Try ELF’s Clear Brow Mascara. It will pull your entire look together.
If you’re in the middle of a grueling workout and need a little pick-me-up, there’s nothing quite like a refreshing spritz of Evian Spray. The cool mist revitalizes and hydrates you, while reviving your makeup. Have a little towel on standby to pat your face down and keep your look in place.
In a rush post-makeup? If you’re in a pinch and don’t have time to wash your hair, look to dry shampoo to come to the rescue! Spray your hair with Batiste or your favorite dry shampoo to revitalize your hair in between washes. It’ll get rid of any excess oil, and make your hair feel fresh and clean as you head out of the gym.
